Singapore – Sands looks to double Marina Bay’s room total

Las Vegas Sands wants an additional 1,500 rooms for its Marina Bay Sands in a move that would more than double its number of rooms.

With the Marina Bay Sands currently operating with 2,563 rooms it would mean a 60 per cent increase in size.

Last year, room revenue at Marina Bay Sands increased by 11 per cent to US$360.3m with occupancy rates up to 98.6 per cent and average daily room rate coming in at $396.

The UN’s World Tourism Organisation said in a recent report that global tourism increased five per cent in 2013 to 1.09bn visits, ‘well above expectations.’ The organisation predicts that global tourism will continue to increase by a further four to 4.5 per cent in 2014.
